A port capable of receiving vessels up to 3,000 deadweight tons (DWT) has opened in Phu Quoc ahead of the island’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November 2027. Its facilities include warehouses and space for storing and loading cargo.

Ngo Minh Tri, vice-chairman of the Phu Quoc People’s Committee, told the opening ceremony that the port would link Phu Quoc with major cruise and shipping brands from different destinations. He also said it would contribute to development in the island’s south.

The facility is expected to handle cargo traffic as well as tourist boat trips to Thom, May Rut and Mong Tay islets.

Le Thi Hong Ly, head of the An Thoi Port management board, said vehicle management would use information technology. Parking, traffic routing and designated areas for collecting and dropping off passengers would also receive attention, with the measures aimed at maintaining security, fire safety, sanitation and passenger safety.

Authorities and operators will progressively revise procedures, strengthen safety at sea and raise service standards to support marine and island tourism in Phu Quoc.
