Johor recorded 1.5 million Indonesian tourist visits in 2025
Indonesians also accounted for 79 per cent of Johor’s 127,000 international patients, according to Indonesia’s consul general in Johor Bahru.

About 1.5 million Indonesian tourists visited Johor, Malaysia, in 2025, according to Sigit Suryantoro Widiyanto, Indonesia’s consul general in Johor Bahru. He said Indonesians also made up 79 per cent of the 127,000 international patients who sought treatment there that year.
The tourism figure covers visitors from across Indonesia, rather than Batam alone, Sigit said in remarks reported by The Star on 5 November. He said the numbers reflected close tourism ties between the two countries.
A new ferry service links Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, to Gold Coast Ferry Terminal in Bengkong, Batam. Speaking at its launch on 1 November, Sigit said the route offered another travel option for residents on both sides.
He said passengers from Johor would gain easier access to western Batam, while those travelling from Batam could more conveniently reach Johor attractions including Johor Premium Outlets and Legoland. Eight of the 11 passenger ferry routes connecting Indonesia and Malaysia are in Johor, he added.
Sigit also backed direct flights between Johor and Indonesian cities, including Bandung. Direct services to Bandung, Yogyakarta and Lombok operated before the COVID-19 pandemic, but frequencies fell afterwards because of higher fuel costs and other operational constraints. Discussions on restoring the Bandung–Johor route are under way.
