Timor-Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão said four Pacific prime ministers had confirmed they would attend the country's Independence Proclamation Day celebrations on 28 November 2026.

The visiting leaders will come from Vanuatu, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Gusmão announced their attendance to journalists on 4 November after his weekly meeting with President José Ramos-Horta at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace in Bairru Pite, Dili.

Gusmão said the leaders' presence would provide an opportunity for mutual encouragement and reminders about maintaining peace in the region.

He also announced that the Prince of Monaco would make an official visit to Timor-Leste on 24 December 2026. Gusmão said Ramos-Horta had informed him of the planned visit and stressed the need to prepare to welcome the guests.

Under the government's plans, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation will handle preparations to receive the visiting dignitaries.
