Vietnam’s Phu Quoc has secured sixth place in a winter-sun ranking compiled by UK luxury travel company Bailey Robinson. The assessment selected 10 destinations worldwide, with Banjul in Gambia taking the top spot and Cambodia’s Siem Reap placing third.

The company assessed winter conditions using four weighted measures: daytime warmth, sunshine, rainfall and wet-day frequency. Its calculations covered December to February and used the World Meteorological Organization’s climate normals for 1991–2020, not short-term forecasts.

For Phu Quoc, the assessment found daily sunshine averaging 7.8 hours and high temperatures averaging around 31 degrees Celsius. Rainfall averaged approximately 30 mm a month, with 3.7 rainy days. The ranking measures winter weather rather than visitor popularity or the quality of tourism experiences.

Bailey Robinson said winter holiday demand was moving beyond beach resorts, with travellers increasingly looking to combine suitable weather with culture, food, nature and outdoor pursuits.

Phu Quoc’s tourist count for the first 10 months reached 9.24 million, an increase of 30% from a year earlier and above its annual target of 8.5 million. The island’s busiest tourism season extends from November to April, overlapping with its dry season.
