KAI offers 30 per cent economy fare discount for year-end travel
Bookings opened on November 7, 2026, for eligible trains departing between December 22, 2026 and January 4, 2027.

Indonesia’s state-owned railway operator KAI is offering a government-backed fare reduction of 30 per cent on commercial economy services over the Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027 holidays, according to Anne Purba, its vice president of corporate communication.
Purba said bookings opened on November 7, 2026. Eligible departures run from December 22, 2026 to January 4, 2027, with discounted tickets available through every official KAI sales channel, including its Access by KAI app.
The Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Transportation Ministry’s Directorate General of Railways initiated the programme. Its stated goals are to preserve purchasing power, encourage tourism and support economic activity in the regions during the holiday period.
The rail discount forms part of a wider national transport stimulus covering air, sea and ferry journeys as well. That programme spans December 17, 2026 to January 10, 2027, although eligibility rules and discount dates differ by transport mode.
KAI Group reported serving 442.52 million customers from January to October 2026, an increase of 6.86 per cent from the corresponding period in 2025. KAI’s local and long-distance trains accounted for 49.9 million customers, up 8.99 per cent over January–October 2025.
