Passengers taking domestic economy flights in Indonesia over Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027 will receive fare reductions of 11 per cent to 13 per cent under a government stimulus package, the Transportation Ministry said.

The policy covers departures between 22 December 2026 and 10 January 2027. Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa said airline representatives had received a briefing on the measure, which is intended to ease holiday travel costs.

Lukman said the ministry would monitor whether carriers applied the reductions and could penalise those that did not comply. He urged airlines to follow the policy.

The move comes after Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian urged affordable holiday fares to limit inflationary pressure from transport costs. Speaking at a coordination meeting in Jakarta, he asked aviation authorities to discourage airlines from pricing tickets at the maximum allowed under regulations.

Karnavian said stronger travel demand was expected to raise seat occupancy, enabling carriers to stay profitable while charging less than the permitted ceiling.
