Madura batik featured in the ceremonial clothing worn by Indonesia’s athletes and officials as they paraded into Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on October 18 for the opening of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games.

Designer Ivan Gunawan brought the traditional patterns into modern suits and jackets under the theme Sekar Jagat Vijaya. The Sekar Jagat motif represents beauty in diversity, while Vijaya means victory.

Wheelchair racers Jaenal Aripin and Maria Goreti Samiyati led Indonesia’s parade group, with Jaenal carrying the national flag. The 47 participants included athletes, coaches, officials, representatives of National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia and members of the Chef de Mission (CdM) team.

Some Indonesian athletes did not join the procession because they needed to prepare for competition on October 19. Indonesia has sent 103 athletes to contest 12 sports at the Games.

The ceremony’s theme, “We Are Beautiful Individuals” (WABI), emphasised togetherness across different cultures, backgrounds and individuals. The fifth edition of the Asian Para Games takes place from October 18 to 24, with competition in 18 sports.
