Foreign tourist visits to Indonesia rise 5.38 per cent in January–August

BPS reported 10.58 million foreign tourist visits during January–August 2026, alongside 842.15 million domestic tourist trips.

Foreign tourism to Indonesia increased in January–August 2026, with visits reaching 10.58 million, according to Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). The agency put the rise at 5.38 per cent against January–August 2025.

Domestic tourism also recorded growth. BPS counted 842.15 million trips over January–August 2026, a gain of 4.29 per cent from the equivalent period a year earlier. Domestic trips in August totalled 104.30 million, exceeding the August 2025 figure by 11.47 per cent.

For international tourism, August contributed 1.60 million visits. That was 6.27 per cent higher than in August 2025, said Ateng Hartono, BPS deputy for distribution and services statistics, in remarks cited by Antara on 4 October 2026.

Malaysian passport holders made up 18.52 per cent of foreign visits in August, the largest share. The shares for Australian and Chinese passport holders were 10.75 per cent and 10.16 per cent respectively. Compared with the preceding month, visits by Malaysian and Chinese passport holders rose, while those by Australian passport holders fell.
