Philippines sets out 2027 plans to improve dive tourism
Transport links, worker training and visitor safety are priorities following the country's eighth consecutive regional diving award.

Improved access to dive sites and stronger visitor protection are among the Philippines' priorities for developing its diving industry in 2027, the Department of Tourism said in an October 8 statement. The plans also cover transport services, tourism worker training and promotion of marine attractions.
The announcement followed the 2026 World Travel Awards ceremony at CROSSROADS Maldives, where the Philippines was named Asia's Leading Dive Destination for an eighth consecutive year. Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the country aims to build on that recognition and develop diving as a key tourism product, according to the Philippines Information Agency.
The department intends to make dive holidays more convenient by improving links between destinations and making services more efficient after visitors arrive. It also plans investment in training for workers serving diving and beach destinations, alongside measures to strengthen visitor safety and security.
Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand were fellow nominees for the regional diving title, the awards' website said. Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognises destinations and businesses in travel, tourism and hospitality, with regional winners progressing to the world categories.
