Malaysia has earmarked RM935 million for tourism and culture in 2027, including support for international connectivity, infrastructure and major events. Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the allocation while presenting Budget 2027 on 9 October, Malay Mail reported.

The funding follows a decision to continue the Visit Malaysia Year campaign through 2027. Anwar said grants would be available to help tourism businesses market and stage events.

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents welcomed the allocation and campaign extension, saying they showed government backing for the sector, according to The Malaysian Reserve. Its president, Nigel Wong, said attention should turn to delivering practical benefits for tourism businesses.

Trip.com Malaysia general manager Stephane Thong also welcomed the measures, The Star reported. He highlighted planned spending on new direct flights, event grants and upgrades to tourism facilities, saying these would make Malaysia more accessible and encourage visits.

Malaysia recorded 28.8 million international visitors from January to August, up 1.8% year on year. Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director-General (Promotion) Mohd Akbal Setia said the figures underscored the importance of closer partnerships with tourism markets around the world, The Sun Malaysia reported.
