CareCard announces that its pharmacy savings card is now compatible with Medicare and can be used by beneficiaries, including those with Part D coverage, to get low prices on prescription and OTC medication.
New York, United States - January 3, 2024 /PressCable/ —
CareCard, a company devoted to making healthcare more accessible, announced that its discount card for prescriptions is now available to Medicare beneficiaries. Their pharmacy savings program benefits individuals with or without Medicare, offering low prices at over 60,000 participating pharmacies across the US.

The update is designed to help Medicare members (including those with Part D coverage) combat rising prescription costs. The card may be used by privately insured individuals as well.
According to the US Department of Health Services, prescription drug price increases continue to create affordability barriers for patients. From July 2021 to July 2022, some manufacturers increased the price of 1,216 drugs by an average of 31.6%. In 2022, a handful of companies hiked their medication prices by as much as $20,000 or 500%.
In light of this issue, CareCard's pharmacy savings card allows individuals and families to save on the cost of their prescription medication. For example, the CareCard price on gabapentin capsules is 72% lower than at most American pharmacies.
According to a study in JAMA Internal Medicine, the price of gabapentin increased by 570% between 2012 and 2020 - significantly higher than the average price increase for prescription meds, which was 49% over the same period. Through its savings program, CareCard seeks to improve access to this anti-seizure medication taken by 69 million Americans.
CareCard savings are available across the United States, and members can compare prices for their zip code online or through the CareCard mobile app. Upon identifying an offer, they only need to present the card, which can be obtained through email or text, to the partner pharmacy.
Compared to Medicare or copay prices, CareCard prescription costs may be reduced by as much as 85%. Furthermore, purchases made through this card are not counted toward the member's Medicare deductible.
A company spokesperson says, "The cost of a prescription may differ by more than $100 between different pharmacies...In the past ten years, insurance companies started passing 25% to 80% more of the cost of drugs onto patients, but CareCard aims to help Medicare members get the best price available."
