NetworkNewsBreaks – EVIO, Inc. (EVIO) Posts Fiscal Q2 2018 Financial Results

EVIO, Inc. (OTCQB: EVIO), a leading provider of cannabis testing and scientific research for the regulated cannabis industry, this morning announced financial and operating results for the quarter and six months ended March 31, 2018. Among other highlights, the company reported revenue for the second quarter of $732,311, a decrease of $56,415 or 12.1% from the second quarter last year. Revenue from the six months ending March 31, 2018, however, was $1,679,176, an increase of $177,997 or 11.9% from the same period in 2017. “EVIO’s second quarter focused greatly on broadening the company’s portfolio. With our recent private placement of $5.973 million, we expanded the company’s footprint by acquiring additional labs, namely in California, a market that we have identified as having unparalleled potential,” EVIO CEO William Waldrop stated in the news release. “We expect the state of California to enforce mandated compliance testing by July 1, 2018. With operational facilities in both Humboldt and Berkeley and the goal of further expansion into the state, we feel like EVIO is well-positioned to meet California’s demand for cannabis testing. Another significant milestone was our entrance into the Canadian market and launched EVIO Canada with the acquisition of Keystone Labs ahead of the country’s legalization of adult recreational use this summer.”

Dec 12, 2018

BANGKOK — A Thai court ruled Tuesday that a soccer player who holds refugee status in Australia can be held for 60 days pending the completion of an extradition request by Bahrain, the homeland he fled four years ago on account of alleged political persecution and torture. Hakeem al-Araibi, who was detained Nov. 27 upon entry at Bangkok's main airport, was denied release on bail during his court appearance. Thai officials said he was originally held on the basis of a notice from Interpol in which Bahrain sought his custody because he had been sentenced in absentia in 2014 to...

Chinese state media praise Bush as 'statesman of vision'

Dec 12, 2018

BEIJING — Chinese state media on Monday praised George H.W. Bush as a "statesman of vision," recalling the late president's role in helping end the Cold War and establishing the foundations of U.S.-China relations. The China Daily newspaper said Bush, who died Friday in Houston at age 94, realized in the 1980s that China was different from the Soviet Union and recognized the potential for cooperation. "It is fair to say, Bush was a statement of vision, not only for being a co-founder of the U.S. dominancy in the post-Cold War era, but also his insightful observations on China, which...

Philippine peace talks adviser resigns over agency graft

Dec 12, 2018

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte accepted the resignation of his adviser on peace talks with insurgents on Tuesday and sacked two other officials due to corruption in an anti-poverty program created for insurgency-hit areas. Duterte said without elaborating he had accepted Secretary Jesus Dureza's resignation and fired two high officials who were implicated in the alleged corruption. Duterte suggested in a speech that Dureza was not involved in corrupt deals but headed the corruption-hit government agency, which oversees efforts to settle decades-long communist and Muslim rebellions. Duterte has repeatedly said he has been overwhelmed by the enormity of...

Gene-editing Chinese scientist kept much of his work secret

Dec 12, 2018

SHENZHEN, China — The Chinese scientist who says he helped make the world's first gene-edited babies veered off a traditional career path, keeping much of his research secret in pursuit of a larger goal — making history. He Jiankui's outsized aspirations began to take shape in 2016, the year after another team of Chinese researchers sparked global debate with the revelation that they had altered the DNA of human embryos in the lab. He soon set his mind on pushing the boundaries of medical ethics even further. The China-born, U.S.-trained scientist once confided to his former Stanford University adviser his...

Dead whale had 115 plastic cups, 2 flip-flops in its stomach

Dec 12, 2018

JAKARTA, Indonesia — A dead whale that washed ashore in eastern Indonesia had a large lump of plastic waste in its stomach, including drinking cups, bottles and flip-flops, a park official said Tuesday, causing concern among environmentalists and government officials in one of the world's largest plastic-polluting countries. Rescuers from Wakatobi National Park found the rotting carcass of the 9.5-meter (31-foot) sperm whale late Monday near the park in Southeast Sulawesi province after hearing that villagers were beginning to butcher the rotting carcass, park chief Heri Santoso said. Santoso said researchers from wildlife conservation group WWF and the park's conservation...
